After catching a fish, Ospreys will often begin eating it while still in flight. They will use their beak to tear off pieces of flesh and swallow them whole, all while maintaining their grip on the fish with their talons. Ospreys may carry fish back to their nest: Depending on the size of the fish they catch, ospreys may carry it back to their nest to eat. They will use their beak to tear off pieces of flesh and feed it to their young, or sometimes eat the fish themselves.
Ospreys have a specialized digestive system that allows them to digest fish bones and other hard parts. Their stomachs contain strong acids that help to break down the bones, and they are able to regurgitate indigestible parts like fish scales and bones in the form of pellets.
